he was telling the truth. How? His definition of sex precluded fellatio. Many thought that the concept was outrageous. How could this man, who runs the United States of America, not know that he is having sex? But today, in a sexually charged society, there is a thin line between what people deem an affair and what activities they do not "count." Does it count if sex acts occur during bachelor parties, while one is drunk, or with members of their own gender? Does it count if there is no physical contact? Divorce lawyers in fact report an increased amount of cases which include spouses engaging in extramarital liaisons which do not include any physical contact. Internet relationships are becoming more frequent as those in committed relationships meet others online. It happens almost by accident. Although the relationship which culminated in the film "Youve Got Mail" involved people in bad relationships, one can imagine that husbands and wives can easily meet others online, participate in sexually oriented chat rooms and otherwise get themselves into trouble. It is important to define what does "count" as sex (Collins 243). One problem with such a determination is that once having agreed that sex need not be about procreation, a sexual episode can comprise many forms of touch or fantasy, and it begins to become obvious that sex need not involve physical contact (243). This brings up questions concerning phone sex, cyber sex and fantasies. Can a person cheat on their spouse without engaging in specific sexual acts? A TIME/CNN poll reported in 1998 that as many as 95% of Americans, believe that having sexual intercourse with a prostitute counts (Handy 52).
