it is elsewhere in the world. Certainly, the country has better health care than many other nations, but this is typically because those nations which are worse off are simply
too poor to afford the material components of quality health care. Among industrialized countries, the United States has some of the worst health care quality in the world. For instance,
the US spends 16% of its gross domestic product on health care, compared to an average of 10% in other industrialized countries, and while those countries have universal coverage wherein
everyone has access to care, 47 million people in the United States are without any access at all ("Solving", 2007). Clearly, this is an inefficient use of resources. Even utilizing
a universal system, some countries have a superior quality service when compared with the US; for instance, Cubas infant mortality rate is much less than the United States ("Solving", 2007).
Its also notable that in the United States, some 30% of the funds spent on healthcare go to administrative overhead, while this figure is only 10% in other countries ("Solving",
2007). The US could learn much from the more efficient, cost-effective, and better quality health care systems of its industrialized brethren. Is Health Care a Right? At
