thoughts of His Resurrection and how He saved mankind. We do not often think in medical terms about the excruciating pain Christ must have felt. Or, perhaps, these thoughts pass through our minds quickly because we cannot bear to focus on them. In recent years, medical experts have written about what happened to Jesus body as He experienced this tortuous death. Jesus human body would have suffered the consequences as described by medical experts. It would have begun with stress and ended with pain beyond our comprehension. Jesus would first have experienced stress, knowing what was coming (Taylor, 2003). After they had their supper together, they went together with Jesus who was going to pray to His Father. This means He had not slept the night before His physical torture began. His Apostles report He was in agony when He was praying on the Mount of Olives: "And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground" (Luke 22:44). Doctors report the severe stress would have ruptured the tiny vessels in the sweat glands causing blood to drop (Taylor, 2003). Jesus was exhausted and experiencing extremely high stress when He was arrested (Taylor, 2003). This degree of stress was enough for Jesus to have gone into shock at that time. He was first beaten by the guards: "The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him" (Luke 22:63). They blindfolded him and continued to taunt and beat Him (Luke 22:64). Unable to even see when He would be shoved or hit would have increased His stress.
