to analyze rape from a radical-conflict perspective; a particularly difficult task considering what most would consider to be the inexcusability of this horrific crime. Typically, both the radical and
the conflict models thematically focus themselves upon societal divisions and the idea that laws are created by certain interest groups. Inherently, they suggest that most crimes (in many extreme
examples even murder) are not necessarily even crimes of genuine evil in theory but rather, they are labeled as crimes by government institutions who set them up as obstacles for
the lesser classes. Relevant to the radical theory, people like and Friedrich Engle Karl Marx have gone so far as to assert that capitalism itself
is a causal factor of crime. To them, our system instigates greed, egocentricity, and predatory behavior. Analyzing rape from this perspective, it can be determined that the egocentric need
for self-fulfillment and the lack of concern or respect that we have for one another can sometimes lead to rape. Marx would probably claim that since we are taught
to compete so vigorously while living in a "dog eat dog" society where only the socioeconomically fittest survive, the violently aggressive and greedily lustful behaviors intrinsic to rape have actually
become byproducts of our own system. But rape has risen with particular velocity only during the last quarter of the twentieth century. Indeed
it has had periods in which the crime was more frequent (late 19th century London- for example) but this in itself does not yet validate the radical theorys applicable appropriateness.
Consider, however, the radicals argument that government laws do not represent the whole of society; but rather the needs and desires of production. Crime is therefore, that which
