he has dominion over them, there are people on this planet who cannot fathom hurting them. They cannot understand why people would harm animals simply for food when they can live off the land. They certainly cannot comprehend why innocent animals would be killed so wealthy women can show off their furs. Animal rights activists have participated in many stunts, such as throwing blood on the furs of women as they walked along New York Streets, and PETA has as a result been labeled extremist. Yet, the animal conservationist who by definition protects animal resources falls somewhere midway between the various controversies regarding animal care. The conservationist wants to promote biological diversity as well as to be able to keep animal populations under control. Yet, in discussing conservation, many questions loom. First, the issue of ethical treatment comes up. It is rather interesting how humans value life--but only human life--in respect to their laws. There are laws on the books regarding animal cruelty but if someone kills a dog or cat for pleasure, that is something that is treated rather frivolously. It is not murder because the victims are animals. Humans routinely kill cows and chickens and so forth and this is the normal way of life. While in this schizophrenic society people eat animals, they also keep animals as pets, and so there is a mixed message that comes from society. While it seems fine to keep animals in pens or lobsters in restaurant fish tanks, it is not okay to leave a dog outside without water. That is cruel. While perhaps one would think hunters are pitted against animal rights activists, that is only the case to some extent. Of course, without hunting what would happen would be an overpopulated species.
