Also, certain words and phrases are used in medicine and health care a bit differently than in the larger society and many of these terms are really concepts. Such words are often used in conjunction and have meaning when used in certain ways. In the realm of healthcare economics, three important terms are resources, technology and cost. The term "health care resources" is defined as follows on one web site: "...includes five types of facilities: community health centers, publicly-operated health centers, school-based health centers, hospitals, and hospital-affiliated health centers" ("Glossary of Terms & Definitions of Measures," 2007). That is one definition peculiar to one site. Yet, the idea of resources in general, and in health care, is the notion that there are tangible things that the community has access to, and these things are called resources. Resources in terms of health care may be health insurance, free health clinics, hospices, social workers, psychologists, health centers, gymnasiums, hospitals and so forth. They encompass a myriad of things. For example, someone who is struggling with obesity and who is looking for resources may find a gymnasium that is affiliated with a hospital, or a yoga class given in a hospital. A social worker may call the patients insurance company and get a referral for a nutritionist. Each of these individuals and things and offerings are considered resources. In the realm of health care, technology is something that is quite relevant. Todays technology allows for surgeries to be performed using the tiniest of cameras and the most complex tools imaginable. Of course, not all hospitals have access to high technology items.
