the different stages of development. These are repeated here because they were part of the training program. Tuckman initially identified four stages of group development and then, added a fifth. The states are: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning (Chimaera Consulting Limited, 2001). Forming is when the individual members of the team first get together, it is a time to get acquainted, it is also a time when members may feel a little ill-at-ease about what the expectations are; storming can occur at different times, it is when the team members begin to discuss the important issues and they may disagree to the point of conflict; norming is the time the team determines what the accepted behaviors will be in the group, the structure and the decision-making process they will use; performing is when the team gets down to action and work diligently on the project, issues or whatever reason they are together; and adjourning is when that team has completed its goal and reason for being (Chimaera Consulting Limited, 2001). Teams that are dynamic with a good communication process will have emotional feelings when the team has to break up. When in the forming stage, team members are likely to use communication techniques that are very polite. When they transition to storming and norming stages, they will begin to listen more carefully to the other members, and in the performing stage, they will tend to use very direct and clear communication to solve the problems and complete the task. Most relationships, no matter what kind they are, that fail do so because of poor communication.
