However, this type of debate overlooks the benefit to the economy and American business, as well as offering students a chance to further their training in an area in which they excel. Most of the misconceptions which abound about vocational education, and which make many want to cut the programs from many community colleges is that vocational education is a job training program with no academics whatsoever. Nothing, however, could be further from the truth. In fact, most vocational education programs demand that their students also take the basic academic course of studies like any other major in college. Without the basic knowledge of English, math, science and the humanities, most of the vocational job skills cannot be obtained. This is because such skills, such as data entry or computer sciences cannot be studied unless one has a firm grasp of mathematics and English. Likewise, those who engage in auto mechanics must be well grounded in mathematics as well as other academic foundations. Vocational Education is racially motivated and gender biased argues those who would see vocational education removed from all educational institutions. For many who have not been a part of a vocational educational program this may seem to be the case, but in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, many of the students who do avail themselves of the vocational educational programs are from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and tend to be mostly minorities. However, this is not because the minority has been forced to pursue this course of study.
