According to feminist writers, Cixous and Lorde, this sacred knowledge is the power of the erotic to free women from external motivators that would force definitions upon one without regard to self. Cixous and Lorde both redefine the meaning usually given to the term erotic. To most of society, proof they say of the war against womens bodies, eroticism in merely a veiled form of sexual tension, of pornography. However, Cixous has this to say: Woman must write her self: must write about women and bring women to writing, from which they have been driven away as violently as from their bodies"(Cixous 309). Cixous explanation, one of many, is that eroticism of the body is only a metaphor for the eroticism of the self, of the mind, so that the power of pleasure and possibilities (in regard to writing and the arts) are made more apparent. Cixous believes that one of the vehicles by which women will be able to break the male dominated perceptions of female empowerment is through more women embracing and engaging in writing and other creative pursuits. One has to consider that what Cixous is stating is credible. Biologically it has been proven that women have a thicker medulla obligata which allows more information to pass between the hemispheres of the brain. Given this, then, is it also not credible that women are capable of more creative intuition and creative works than perhaps their male counterparts?
