been spurred by the use of Computer Tomography (CT) which was the first process that really allowed scientists to get a picture of the brain (Pinel, 2009). An MRI
provides a high resolution image of the organ that is being looked at. With the brain, the MRI measures radio-frequency waves as they are constructed by hydrogen atoms (Pinel, 2009).
An MRI can produce a three-dimensional image so that scientists can see the patients brain. Another brain imaging technique is positron emotion topography (PET). This procedure measures brain activity
(Pinel, 2009). This image is taken after a radio-active serum is injected into a persons carotid artery. The process involves injecting the serum, having the patient do something, like reading,
and viewing the areas in the brain that become active during that activity (Pinel, 2009). Functional MRIs measure the flow of oxygen in the blood in the observed sections of
the brain. There is more oxygen in the blood of active areas in the brain, which allows scientists to see which areas are most active (Pinel, 2009). Magnetencephalography is another
technique used to image brain activity. This actually measures any changes in the surface of scalp that are related to changes in brain activity (Pinel, 2009). Scalp electroencephalography (EEG) measures
the brain waves. Electrodes are places on the scalp and a machine picks up the shape and types of waves, e.g., alpha waves or beta waves (Pinel, 2009). The EEG
is a measure related to psychophysiological activity. Here are a variety of techniques for neuropsychological assessment, such as intelligence and memory assessments. Both the PET and the functional MRI can
