fostered Kings influential power, many fail to see that it was actually Dr. Kings acute communication skills which utilized these various traits to relay words of conviction, express feelings of strong emotion, and convey images with which many could both identify and empathize. If it were not for Dr. Kings use of language and ability to prepare a speech, it is probable that he would never have been so markedly influential. Such truth is illustrated as reality by the genuine fact that much of todays generation knows Dr. King solely by recollection of his speeches and in particular, several key phrases of his famous "I Have a Dream Speech". In the "dream" speech, King exemplifies several methods of proper speech presentation. It is evidenced and also somewhat logical that he is able to determine the needs of his audience. Since the situation he is speaking about is one with which he is directly involved and oppressed by; King is able to rouse the audiences cultural feelings via the content of his speech and he is able to win their emotions through his testimonial display of integrity as well as his somewhat lyrically expressed passion for the issue of segregation. Dr. King does indeed work to build his credibility during his speech although it was probably not as necessary in his particular situation as would be in most instances of speech preparation. His wide use of convicting analogies compliment Kings expertise in the situation. His followers viewed him as a leader with whom they could empathize and his inferred expertise was accented by the dynamism which Dr. King displayed in his ability to speak with a certain spell-binding authority. ...
