Technology is indeed a catalyst for societal changes. It makes life better but it also comes replete with societal, psychological and environmental costs. Despite these costs, our addiction to technology seems to only take a stronger and stronger hold on us as time progresses. Social Responsibility Our technological world has changed considerably since the early pages of our existence on earth. Instead of sticks and stones we now rely on a variety of technological gadgets. Practically every technological feature of our life involves electricity or the consumption of some other resource. The wheel is no longer an innovation but rather a critical component of many different facets of our technological marvels. To use technology in the most productive manner possible we must be prepared to exercise both individual and collective social responsibility. Technology in the wrong hands can inflict irreparable societal damage. The weapons of mass destruction that are the center of world controversy today reflect that fact. These weapons do exist and they exist in some of the most remote corners of the earth. They are also a cherished part of the weaponry of those nations that are considered the most civilized nations on earth.
