a long history of reaching out and inviting his audience to experience with him the sometimes intense and often expansive sense of being that is clearly portrayed within his works,
and The Lamp at Noon is no exception. "Sinclair Ross is renowned for capturing a particular and defining time in prairie history. The vastness of the western spaces
and people living in a harsh and drought-ridden landscape made life difficult for many people on the prairies in the 1930s" (Anonymous act305.html). The Canadian novelist had a distinctive talent
when it came to incorporating the setting into the storys overall framework so that it becomes completely interwoven and inseparable from each other. While the story speaks about the
