What is sexual arousal and why are certain stimuli more effective than others? This question dates all the way back to the beginning of mans existence but can be better assessed when examining later periods, such as that of the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, who represents the epitome of beauty. There can be no argument that she possessed the necessary charm and delicate nature essential to stimulate sexual arousal in the opposite gender, which is clearly documented by historical images of the goddess. However, while this example provides external testimony to mans innate sexual behavior, it does not address the reasons why certain visual stimuli instigate sexual behavior and others do not. Moreover, it only hints of the significant differences that exist between male and female sexual behavior and what stimuli encourage sexual desire with each gender. Contemporary society basically revolves around the notion of sexual arousal, inasmuch as popular culture is consumed with its presence; pornography is, indeed, the best example of such stimuli. As a rule, the world of pornography is a mans domain where beautiful yet unattainable women are the objects of unrequited sexual desire. Theirs is a visual world that requires the stimulation of seeing a naked body in order to achieve climax. Whether that medium is through magazine, film or live shows, men will always be visual creatures who need to apply their sense of sight to sexual activity.
