Discuss this statement in relation to the impact End User Computing has had on the productivity of organizations. To discuss this particular issue, it would first be helpful to define what, exactly, "end user computing" is. In its most basic form, end-user computing is defined as use of a computer at the application level -- in other words, the person for whom the product (i.e., the computer system) was designed (Internet.com, 2005). This differentiates it from the person who develops the programs, services and installs the system -- in other words, a software developer working on a personal computer in a professional capacity is not an end-user (Internet.com, 2005). The secretary or administrative assistant, however, who works on that system once the software developer has competed installation and testing on it, however, is considered an end-user. In short, end-user computing tends to take considerations of the end-user in mind when it comes to designing and implementing a system, as opposed to not doing so. While this might be a simplistic statement, there were times, not so long ago, when the IT professionals, when it came to development and implementation, simply didnt take the end users into account when it came to IT systems -- they simply developed and implemented these systems in ways that they thought was best.
