foreign policy, the nation was satisfied. Japan in fact had few political problems. Also, it should be said that the 1920s were rather good all over the world. There
was a sense of prosperity and the decade had been dubbed the Roaring Twenties in some regions. However, things were different for Japan. In Japan, the economy began to fizzle
in the 1920s, and after that, there was a negative impact on Japans domestic politics. This created a rise in terms of militarists and ultimately would culminate in Japans aggression
during the 1930s. Of course, there are other ways to look at the history of Japan, of which this is one. There are certainly other theories that suggest Japans actions
during the 1930s were not contingent on the economy. Whichever the case, it pays to look at the history of Japan during the early twentieth century in order to discern
exactly what occurred at the time. During and after the First World War, Japan had gone through rapid industrial expansion ("Japan: History," 2002). This was not in lieu of
war profiteering, and this fact, in accordance with an increased cost of living, created both resentment and rioting (2002). Trade unions would spring up and this influenced future governments
to pass factory legislation that was sorely needed (2002). Japanese living standards were low, at least when compared with what was going on in the United States (2002).
Still, Doak (2001) suggests that Japan underwent a westernization right after World War II. This means that Japan, though not on par with the likes of the United States,
