Nigeria. The nation gained its independence from Great Britain in 1960, but much of its
history has been under military rule. Corruption has been rampant, and the nation lacks
even the basic infrastructure necessary to support business activity. Though the current
president is a former general, the government is striving to achieve true democracy and a
free-market economy. The paper explores several alternatives and recommends that the
government pursue privatization, institute tax policies favorable to business, greatly
downsize government and reduce military involvement in the lives of citizens. Bibliography
