between the two men. Euthyphro feels accusations against Socrates are the same as accusations against the state. Through the Euthyphro?s conversation , Plato establishes that if Socrates can be
accused, anyone can. But Euthyphro is confident that they will both win. Socrates asks him about his law suit. Euthyphro is accusing his father of murder. A
laborer on his farm killed another in a fit of passion. Euthyphro?s father had him bound and thrown in a ditch while he consulted a diviner about what to do
with him. While he was gone, the man died. Euthyphro figures two wrongs don?t make a right and that his father is now a murder. According to Euthphro, the gods
will be angry if he?s doesn?t prosecute. His family insists that the man was a murder and, their attitude, basically, is what?s the big deal. Euthyphro is absolutely confident
that he?s right and knows the will of the gods. Euthyphro enthusiastically agrees to Socrates on piety and impiety. Socrates acts much impressed with Euthyphro and says that as
his disciple, he?ll tell Meletus to indict him instead. Euthyphro draws on Greek mythology to justify his actions. Socrates grills him about inconsistencies in his argument. Euthyphro says to be
pious is to act like him, and not tolerate any ill act. Socrates wants more detail. Euthyphro says that what pleases the gods is pious and what displeases them is
impious. Socrates turn his words back on him again and again till the other man?s arguments are shot full of holes. Finally, Euthyphro has had enough, he has to go.
