are some logical theories concerning the origin of life and the impetus behind the evolution of human life, but, to date, there is no conclusive proof that indicates one theory is superior to others. Therefore, this discussion will offer a overall view of what is known and what is being speculated concerning how human life began. Human life began, first of all, with life on this planet. A prevailing theory has been that life on earth began as a result of random accidents, in which lightning triggers the formation of amino acids, which, in turn, began forming the building blocks of life (Overman 34). However, recent discoveries in the fossil record have pointed to the holes in this theory. The Earth formed around 4.6 billion years ago, but was too hot to support life until roughly 3.98 billion years ago (Overman 34). Fossil record discovered in Greenland show that life has existed on the planet from at 3.85 billion years go, which means that there was approximately 130 million years available for random processes to form the first living matter from non-living matter and not the billions of years that was previously posited. This makes the mathematical odds that living matter formed from random chance mathematically impossible (Overman 34). Religion offers an alternative scenario, but science has yet to come up with a logical explanation for how this new information can be incorporated into existing theories on the origin of life. Skipping ahead several million years, life did begin on planet Earth and eventually, hominids, the forerunners to modern day human beings, came into being. From present-day knowledge, some facts about early human life can be discerned. For example, genetically human beings differ from chimpanzees by only 1 percent of their DNA, i.e. we are 99 ...
