New research reveals that some hurricanes are in fact caused by a warming trend. Researchers note a relationship between temperature changes in the ocean and the number of hurricanes that come about in the North Atlantic ("Increased Hurricane Activity Linked to Sea Surface Warming," 2008). Local researcher and scientist Mary Kelly confirms that hurricanes have been increasing due to global warming. She remarks: "Yes, we have found an interesting connection with the heating up of the bay and the influx of hurricanes. This research is new perhaps, but this is what we suspected all along!" We asked her for advice. What should people should do? She replied: "They do what they always do. We here in Florida are always prepared for the next disaster. They just have to be vigilant and stick to the recommendations." What are those recommendations? What can the average citizen do?
