Essay / Research Paper Abstract

This is an 8 page paper discussing the relationships between men and women and the existence of inequality within marriage. The increasing role of women in the workplace often leads to disparity and inequality within marriages which is more obvious today as in the past because inequality still exists when both spouses are working. The traditional roles of women responsible for domestic tasks and child care while men were responsible for primarily working outside of the home were largely accepted well into the 20th century. However, within the last several decades, women are almost as equally represented in the work force as men but despite this, most studies on equality within marriages still report that women have a disproportionate share of the domestic tasks and child care responsibilities in addition to their professional career. What is surprising most of all from these findings is that the majority of couples surveyed still report that equality within a marriage is important even though their practices do not reflect this belief. Tutorial language appears throughout in square brackets to assist in research writing. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
