all industries, the health care industry as well. In the health care industry there is normally a great deal of competition and a great deal of confusion, on the part of the average consumer. Because of these conditions many believe that proper marketing can help alleviate some of the confusion, and put one, or another, health car provider at an advantage. This is clearly the case in America where marketing seems to latch on to every industry known to man. In Europe and other places, however, such marketing strategies are perhaps not nearly as aggressive or imperative. They are, however, coming into their own and being seen as a hope for the industry of health care. In the National Health Service, which is predominantly based out of the UK, we find more and more interest in marketing for several reasons. In the following paper we examine the pursuit of marketing, first discussing its relevance, and then presenting an examination of the positive and negative factors involved in marketing the National Health Service. Relevance of Marketing As American citizens most would argue that without marketing one cannot expect their business, whatever the business, to do well in such a competitive world. And, in truth, the world of industry, all industries, is expected to only become more complex and more competitive. Without proper and successful marketing one cannot expect to survive in industry, much less make a profit. In the medical industry everything from simple drugs to promotion of hospitals and health coverage is marketed in the hopes of getting the attention of the consumer.
