of ever-tightening corporate budgets, the company airplane recently has been seen as an executive perq for which stakeholders prefer not to pay. It is indeed difficult to justify full ownership of a company jet and the costs associated with it. Fractional ownership, however, allows organizations to take advantage of the benefits of jet ownership without bearing the full costs of full ownership. The purpose here is to examine some of the marketing opportunities available to the fractional ownership industry in which competitors own small jets and sell interest in them on a timeshare basis. Operations and the 4 Ps Timeshare ownership has been common in resort real estate for decades and currently constitutes the greatest area of growth in resort ownership sales; the same trend is operational in private corporate jets. Begun as Executive Jet in 1986, the segment of the airline industry that offers "timeshare" ownership of private aircraft does not refer to their business using that term. Rather, the proper reference is "fractional ownership." It means the same thing of course, but avoiding the label of time share avoids the possibility that customers could make any connection with questionable practices and techniques common in its real estate counterpart. In this day of increasing competition and need to operate more efficiently, many organizations that would like to have corporate jets available are bypassing the opportunity in favor of economy fares of commercial flights. Though they would prefer the time savings and greater convenience of private aircraft, stockholders generally view anything extravagant extremely negatively.
