The fact that little Serendipity is being used as a pawn in an argument between Serendiptys mothers father and five year-old Serendipitys Grandpa Bob and Grandma Janice has presented itself in countless cases in which only "the names have been changed." Issues of personal hatreds, biases against different and therefore "wrong" religious practices, as well as the almost pathological determination to settle old grievances have dominated the debate and left the children involved as victims of an argument with which they have no connection other than their simple existence. Arguing Against the Guardian ad Litem A Guardian ad Litem serves as a childs advocate in the courtroom. Serendipitys Guardian ad Litem determined that it was important that the child be able to maintain her relationship with her grandparents and that to terminate that relationship would ultimately emotionally damage her. The recommendation of the guardian is that Serendipity be allowed to continue her regular visits with Bob and Janice and that regardless of any opposition from Agnes (the little girls mother), the connections that exist between the grandparents and child are important, meaningful, and beneficial to the child. Bob and Janice clearly believe the same thing and that has motivated their filing a petition to the court to establish grandparent visitation rights under New Hampshires RSA 458:17-d.
