What we know about Christ is recorded in the New Testament of the Holy Bible, and especially, in the Gospels. We know very little about Christs childhood. The only thing recorded in the Bible is that Jesus was teaching learned men in the Temple when He was 12 years old. This is the first time that we know of that Christ indicated He knew He was the Son of God (Luke 2:41-52). Christs earthly father, Joseph, was a carpenter in the small village of Nazareth. Nazareth was a farming village but it was also a thriving market hub, which made it the social and economic center of the region. There was a temple in Nazareth, which was the central place of worship as well as a place for meetings. This was, in fact, the "seat of the local Jewish government" (Jesus Central.com, 2009). Josephs occupation suggests that the family was "a part of the middle class" (Jesus Central.com, 2009). Mohammed was born in 527 A.D. in Mecca, which is located in Saudi Arabia (Bethany World Prayer Center, 1997). His father died before he was born, which set the family in a state of poverty (Hooker, 1996). Mohammeds family was from the Hashim clan, which was one of the poorer clans in the area (Hooker, 1996). It was this clan that "headed the opposition to the wealthy merchant clans (Hooker, 1996). While Judaism was the primary religion in Christs life, when Mohammed was born, people were either Jews or Christians.
