According to Andrew Harrison, the CEO of EasyJet, the sales that are made through the companys internet site is a key element of the business model (EasyJet, 2007). However, even though there is extensive use of information technology, it may be argued that there are more advanced which may be used by the company to increase customer satisfaction by slightly altering the process of the service provision. One of the areas which EasyJet, along with other companies, has faced criticism has been the non allocation of seats. Originally this was undertaken as a move to reduce costs, but with technology development and the on line booking systems it may be argued that there is the potential for adding value to the service and increasing revenues by selling an option to allow passengers to book a specific seat, or seats, when they purchase their tickets. In order to understand the use of technology and its value to the company and how it is key it is important to look at the company itself and see how technology fits in with the strategy and the people who use it. It is only by appreciating the technological environment within EasyJet as a whole and its culture that the potential of adding an option to choose seating may be assessed.
