Jerry begins to taunt and annoy Tom at every chance meeting the two boys encounter, even if Jerry has to purposely go out of his way to be in the
same place. Nothing is done by other students to try to defuse the situation, because Jerry is a big man on campus who is feared and revered by all
others at school. The circumstances soon get so out of control that Tom finds himself not only avoiding Jerry at every cost, but he has also started skipping class
in an extreme effort to escape the mounting persecution. Discord among students is a normal, daily event at all stages and types of
educational institutions, but it is the manner in which such antagonism is addressed that varies from school to school. A fairly new and acclaimed method of dealing with student
strife employs the very students themselves. Peer mediation -- a method by which students counsel one another in order to overcome problems and conflicts -- is gaining momentum within
school districts across the country. Peer mediation is effective in many forms; however the two most prevalent types are those where a specific group of students presides over such
