Essay / Research Paper Abstract

A 5 page paper discussing what parts of anatomy and what actions need to be addressed in achieving improved performance in the service of a volleyball, which is more straightforward than achieving improvement in other areas. Conditions always are consistent in terms of distance to send the ball, where to send the ball and the motions involved in accomplishing a successful serve. Improvements in the results of the serve therefore can focus on the server’s approach to the ball and the level of strength s/he includes in making contact with the ball to initiate its movement. The server soon will determine what level of force applied will result in placing the ball in the desired area of the opposing team’s court without traveling out of bounds. Once these principles are defined in action, ultimate improvement in performance rests on the repetition of practice. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

few key opportunities to outclass the competition in the game of volleyball. Performance at the net is important, as is the choreographed function of individuals as a unit. Of the key components contributing to the teams ultimate overall performance, it is the serve that carries the greatest potential for creating an advantage for the team. All team members have opportunity to serve at some point during the game. Knowledge of how to increase physical performance during the serve to gain maximum benefit can have positive effects for the team as a whole. Anatomical Action When the server holds the ball, drops the arm, pulls his arm down while holding the other straight in front, then makes contact with the ball, s/he has just used more than 130 muscles in the legs, back, shoulder and arm (DeBenedette 180). The use of this many muscles in succession and in concert precludes providing a simple, short answer of what has happened and how it has happened. Each of these muscles is attached to tendon and bone that also move, and some kinesiologists also include the effects of blood supply in their evaluation of what has just occurred. The basic principles of kinesiology are easily applied to an understanding of the actions in volleyball, and demonstrate the complexity of what appears to be a fundamentally simple action. Understanding the basic elements of kinesiology can be utilized to improve basic movement skills by developing a greater understanding of fundamental human physiology. The core concepts of kinesiology include things like the range and speed ...
