students graduate with specific degrees such as nursing, chemistry, English, sociology or philosophy. There are a variety of academic disciplines to choose from. Some are career oriented and some are not attached to specific vocations. Often, a student knows what he or she would like to do upon graduation, but some are not so sure. Either way, a great deal of research is necessary in order to land the perfect job. One consideration is location. Does the graduate want to travel or are they willing to relocate? Any physical or mental disabilities should be taken into consideration as well as other commitments. It is possible that a student is taking care of an ill parent or grandparent and cannot accept a position far from home. Even if one is looking for a job in their local area, someone living near large cities like Detroit, New York or Minneapolis may commute thirty or sixty minutes to work each day. For example, New York City sees thousand of people enter through different transit and bus systems as well as those who travel by automobile. People come as far away as Pennsylvania or Connecticut, some traveling perhaps two hours each way door to door. While most would only embark on such a journey for a very good job, or when a particular position is a stepping-stone to high-level success, someone looking for their first job will want to look for a good location. While things like location, benefits, and hours are elements that should never be discussed on job interviews-unless there is a good reason to do so-these issues should be considered.
