Insurance fraud is also a problem that needs to be addressed, because the elderly cannot always read the paperwork completely. Safety on the roads of Miami is a major problem
with many seniors insisting that they are still capable of driving when they are unable to see the road. These issues cause problems for the senior citizens, their families, and
those around them. If we can make sure that these issues are resolved before the baby boomers all hit retirement age, we can make Miami a much safer and happier
place to live. Population In the 2009 Census Bureau report, people aged 65 and older made
up 14.4% of the Miami-Dade County population. Roughly 17% of people in Florida as a state are aged 65 and older. According to Florida Charts (2010), Florida ranks fourth in
the nation in terms of high population. In 1970, the population was 6,851,168. By 2003, the state of Florida had 17,164,199 people.
In order for a population to grow, two things have to happen. One is that more people need to be showing up to the area (via migration or birth) than
those that are dying. The bulk of the increase in Florida is due to people migrating during retirement (Florida Charts, 2010). The
question is: are the senior citizens moving to Miami Florida aware of how to live safely in their new home before they get there? Or do they just show up
and try to figure things out as they go along? Without proper preparation, life in a new area can be dangerous for even a young person, let alone a senior
