no family at all. For those who support homosexual unions, there is no question that gay people should adopt. After all, while gay or lesbian couples cannot conceive children on their own, many couples do want families. Adoption is a positive approach to creating a gay family because it also helps the community at large. Many people believe that the world is overpopulated and that adoption is a way to keep things in check. Famous women such as Angelina Jolie and Mia Farrow have adopted many children from around the world in order to foster the notion that good people do help out by taking care of those who have been abandoned. Yet, when it comes to gay marriage, some people have issues. Peter Wolfgang for example claims that gay marriage does threaten religion (Porstner, 2006). Porstner (2006) reports: "Wolfgang said same-sex marriage is already wreaking havoc in Boston, where Catholic Charities stopped handling adoptions so it would not have to place children in homes with same-sex couples." Indeed, gay families do adopt children so some people are opting out of the adoption business simply because they want to discriminate against homosexuals and they cannot do so legally. Many states do allow gay adoption, but Florida is one state that has wrestled with the issue. It was reported in 2008, that Judge Lederman ruled that prospective gay parents should be protected by the Constitution and that the states argument that homes of gay and lesbian couples are unsuitable is ridiculous (Anderson, 2008). She claims that gay people should be able to adopt since they are already allowed to be foster parents (Anderson, 2008).
