January 12, 1928. The author is unknown and as such will note be cited. The article will be analyzed in terms of its informative content and its particular position. France and Japan This article begins by informing the reader that France told its ambassador to Japan, Tokyo, to issue a statement to the government that protested the bombing of a French church in China. This sort of an introduction leads us to perhaps take a stance without knowing any of the particulars. The story does not begin by telling us what happened in particular, but begins with demands by France. Of course, the fact that Japan bombed a church in China is perhaps informative enough and clearly cannot necessarily possess any positive conditions. It is likely that Japan did not make a mistake and accidentally lose a bomb over China. We are told in the next paragraph that a French monk was killed in the bombing and another one was wounded. "Informed observers believed the French Foreign Office acted with vigor because Nanning is the capital of Kwangai Province, adjoining French Indo-China, and is considered a zone of special French interest." This information provides us with the knowledge that Japan is perhaps setting out to threaten France in its pursuits outside of France. However, the reader must also realize that the information is coming from "informed observers." This does not tell us how valid or educated their statements actually are. We are essentially being slowly led to believe that the reason the Japanese bombed this church was because it felt the church was symbolic of the French and a threat to Japan.
