Victor Frankls book, Mans Search for Meaning, as he shares his own story of survival from Hitlers death camps. The ability to find the silver lining in what was assuredly a very dark cloud in humankinds history, stands as a testament to the triumph of the human spirit. What appears to have happened as a result of his early experience in the death camp is to give him an unique perspective on lifes biggest question: why are we here? What is the meaning of life? Victor Frankl spent three years in Auschwitz during WWII. In his book, Mans Search for Meaning, he shares his experiences which lead him to conclude that: "Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible"(Frankl 172). Given this, then, meaning is the ability to deal with life in the present moment, discovering ones unique inner talents, and to trust overall in an ultimate and larger picture, of which we are a small part.
