choices of Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton have impacted the foreign and domestic direction of American businesses and foreign outlook. Ronald Reagan, whose economic policies to this day are still having an affect on the country. It has been said that many of the votes for Regan werent so much a vote for Regan as it was a vote against Carter. Whatever it was, Reagan won the election handily, made nice with the congress and passed numerous laws, acts and bills which brought about a time which has been called, the Reagan Boom Years. Reagans plan seemed fairly straight forward: reduce the rates thereby increasing tax revenues from the wealth generated, rather than socking it all away into tax shelters. He encouraged investment by those who had the money to spare, and shifted the tax burden upward toward the higher earners who could sustain it, at the same time across the board the rates would lower. What happened, then, was that everyone wanted to jump onto Regans bandwagon. Especially when things began to happen as hed promised. If he hadnt had friends and allies in Congress, when the deficit began to reduce itself, both the White house and Congress were running in to state to their folks back home that they had supported Reagan from the beginning. According to the Congressional Budget Offices figures, the deficit fell from two hundred billion dollars to thirty four billion dollars during the first four years of Reaganomics(Sloan, pg 24). So why was Regan so successful? It would seem that Regan made wise choices on many fronts. First, he wanted more spending on defense, lower entitlement spending, lower tax rates which would boost the economy (and thus revenues) ...
