California all to themselves in this regard until 1821, when a Mexican Republic was created as the direct result of revolution. California then became Mexicos territory, only to once
again be taken by yet another entity in 1846 - the Americans (Shupp, 2003). Yerba Buena, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Diego were the first ports to
be captured during battle. The vision that Spanish colonists imagined was nothing even close to how Californias Indians envisioned it, inasmuch as the
settlers had no desire to include the indigenous people in their progressive plans. Rather, the native Indian population became subservient to the whims of Spanish colonists with regard to
every aspect of their existence. As such, the new vision put forth by infiltrating colonists was neither welcome nor accepted by Californias Indians. The Spanish government claimed to
attempt to create a stable and harmonious society that would firmly establish the Hispanic society. The extent to which this vision was fulfilled during the period between 1763 and
1848, however, illustrates how brute force and religious/political intervention was employed in order to reach toward the original objective (Shupp, 2003). Like so many other groups who sought a better
life, the Puritans created a new existence in America different from what they had known in England. The year was 1620 when those persecuted for their religious beliefs, made
