Thanks to recent efforts such as the Galileo space probe we now have a better understanding of planets such as Europa than we have at any other point in history.
Pictures and other data from the planet have inspired even more questions regarding the presence of an ocean and of life. Despite the continual debate about the practicality
of such exploration, more advanced exploration is all but insured. First detected by the space probe Galileo, Europas ocean is affected by the Jupiter induced magnetic field which surrounds Europa
(Discover Magazine 20). Electric currents occur in the salty waters as a result of the magnetically induced sloshing action which occurs as deep as sixty miles beneath Europas surface
(Discover Magazine 20). It was this current, in fact, which was initially detected by the Galileo space probe (Discover Magazine 20). The probe also collected revealing pictures of
the planets surface in which large chunks of ice appeared distributed around the surface of the planet as if place there by the actions of an ocean pulling them apart
and rotating them into new positions (National Public Radio (a) PG). Kluger et. al. (a) PG) observe: "Astronomers dont know why Europan ice and terrestrial ice would not fracture
the same way, but they admit they have no experience with the kinds of cracks that are produced when an entire world is frozen over. More to the point, the
