While it is true that in latter times there are some dark haired beauties like Penelope Cruz and Demi Moore, by and large, men are likely to choose light skinned blonds like Gwyneth Paltrow. Although ironically Gwyneth played both an overweight girl with inner beauty, and the beauty she actually is, in the film Shallow Hal, most do see blond haired women as quintessential beauties. While many wonder what is wrong with that, there are scientists experimenting with cloning and altering genes. There are fears of eugenics carried too far. What if someone wanted a blue eyed, blond daughter and had the money to buy one? Yet, aside from future fears, it pays to note that even before scientists were able to create a test tube baby, eugenics was a reality. While the question of eugenics is bandied about, most agree that it is wrong. Still, questions linger as science finds ways to alter genes. Would someone want a daughter whose genes were altered so she would never get breast cancer? In the world of genetics, it is a stark possibility. Yet, while such tampering seems promising, cloning experiments have left scientists with real ethical problems. The problem with cloning is that animal clones have in fact suffered severe abnormalities such as fatty livers and oversized placentas as well as enlarged navels and head deformities (Wolfson and Bailey 40). Cloned mice have significantly shorter life spans than mice born from normal mating (Senior 587). Other animals have further suffered from defective arteries, faulty lungs, and damaged immune systems and when such occurred, the creatures were euthanized (Wolfson and Bailey 40).
