owns Dayton-Hudson stores, Marshall-Fields, and Target discount stores. She has been with the company for nearly twenty years, beginning as a luggage buyer for the stores. Most of her career has been in some aspect of the retail business and after earning her masters degree in business, she was determined to become one of the true decision makers at the company. She had already been with Mervyns for eight years and felt she had a distinct advantage over other Mervyns corporate managers since she had worked on both sides of retailing as both a buyer then as a sales manager. Starting as a "junior executive associate" at the Hayward, California, headquarters of Mervyns, Millikan began her corporate training. Upon completion of the training, she took over as manager of financial operations for housewares in the Rocky Mountain Division originally based in Denver then Salt Lake City. Millikan held that position for three years, moving on to handling the divisions financials for womens and childrens clothing. She kept that position for five years before becoming the divisions assistant financial director (over all operations) and upon the financial directors retirement in 1997, she was appointed as financial director. At age 45, she feels confident that there are still significant opportunities available to her but she is content in the position she has and has plunged into the details of the work with energy and enthusiasm.
