Singapore presents a unique business environment that is a blend of Asian and Western influences. Workplace diversity is one result of that
blending. So too is cultural fractionation and differences in expectations within the workplace. The intent of this paper is to explore the types of problems that have erupted
between native Singaporeans and Chinese immigrants to the country. Singapore is now home to numerous high tech manufacturing companies. Some of
these companies are Asian owned and others are Western owned. Most of the products manufactures in these businesses are exported from the country to the West. The business
environment overall is thus characterized by a diversity of multinational considerations. Interestingly, individual workplaces themselves are more often multicultural to one degree or another than they are monogamous in
their cultural makeup. Consider, as a fictional example, XYZ Corporation. XYZ is a US owned chemical manufacturing plant that is staffed by a multitude of races, ethnicities, and
cultures. Just established in the late twentieth century, XYZ is a relative newcomer to Singapore. The Corporation is directly
affected, however, by Singapore culture and history. In many ways, in fact, the corporation is quite similar to the majority of Western-owned corporations there.
