the general population feels that such people are dangerous and perhaps even have a subliminal belief that the disability is contagious. People with manic depressive conditions are often looked down upon and feared by people. And, schizophrenics are perhaps the most feared. With that in mind the following paper briefly examines the condition of schizophrenia as it involves social problems, family, and employment issues. Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is one of the most frightening of mental illnesses. It is a mental condition that often causes the individual to find themselves incapable of handling the social world in any reasonable manner. They rarely hold down jobs for any length of time and their personal relationships suffer a great deal as well. In addition, they frighten the "normal" people in society because they are different and more often than not misunderstood. Most people interact with schizophrenics as people who live on the street and walk around mumbling to themselves. There are many different levels of schizophrenia, but most people only know them as frightening and dirty members of the street societies. This is because the condition is not really understood by most and as such the families of schizophrenics often push the family member aside. They have nowhere to go and are left to their own devices, which are generally not strong enough to deal with "normal" life. Of course, there are also the cases such as that seen in the recent film "A Beautiful Mind" wherein we see the brilliant mind deteriorate and the man experience discrimination because he cannot function normally. But, he was admired and respected and cared for and that made all the difference in the world.
