                                                    analogy is thinking of sustainability as being a way of managing an inheritance.  A person lives off of income and does not deplete the capital that supplies that income.  
                                                
                                                    For example, a young man received an inheritance of $1 million.  If he wisely invests it and is able to make a 10% return, he is able to  
                                                
                                                    live off that income, to the tune of $100,000 each year, without ever having to deplete the initial amount. That same analogy applies to Earths capital that supports all life.  
                                                
                                                    To establish and maintain a sustainable life, it is essential to not waste energy or avoid relying upon the very resources that can best "sustain" us.  We must,  
                                                
                                                    instead, learn to take advantage of the virtually inexhaustible solar energy of sunlight, wind, flowing water, renewable wood, hydrogen gas produced by using solar energy to decompose water, and heat  
                                                
                                                    from the earths interior.  On our short human time scale, this brief "fossil-fuel age" we now live in is ultimately, and inarguably, unsustainable. 	It is no exaggeration to suggest
