the royal Mexica lines claim and the rulers of Copans claims that they are descendents of the ancient Mesoamerican civilizations. Claim to Heritage As mentioned, the Mexican heritage
is so diverse and complex that it may well be likely that all people who are born in Mexico today, who come from Mexican descent, are related to the ancient
Mesoamerican civilizations. Two groups, however, that have argued about their heritage are the royal Mexica line and the rulers of Copan. In merely providing some background from which the
student can more adequately approach their own analysis, we note that one author indicates the following: "There was Olmec influence in the world of Teotihuacan and Tula to the northwest
of the cradle and then the Maya to the south. The great city/state of the Mexica in the high plateau came late in the evolution of the culture, but not
last, for it spread everywhere, to the four cardinal directions, in works of war and trade. Then the Spaniards came, and there was a moment when the culture that sprang
from the Olmec cradle could have entered its grave. But the Mesoamerican ethos survived. It contracted, and then began to spread again" (Shorris, 2004). After the Spanish invaded the
culture moved around, spreading into Yaqui, Raramurl, and Paquime territory (Shorris, 2004). The people began to take on the cultures or patterns of the regions they moved into, becoming hunters
