we are healthy or not. DNA is very useful in a number of applications ranging from those found in criminal justice to those found in such cutting edge fields as cloning. DNA, of course, comes in different forms and can reveal different information about our genetic makeup. Mitochondrial DNA, for example, is passed down through the female blood line only. Never-the-less, it is the more persistent of DNA in terms of age. Most DNA evidence in a forensic sense at least is transitory in nature and must be collected as soon as possible. Even quite old samples, however, can contain mitochondrial DNA. Nuclear DNA, although less persistent, is much more specific to the individual. DNA is made up of several components, the most notable of which are the chromosomes and allelles. DNA sequences are notable as well. When these sequences replicate that of the cells messenger RNA they are known as a sense sequence. Paired with the sense, on the oppositive strand of the DNA molecule, is the antisense sequence. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a method through which even small bits of DNA can be amplified. Copies can be made off of the original template to use in biological and medical research and other applications such as investigations of inherited traits, forensics, and even DNA cloning for sequencing. Using PCR amplification researchers can make billions of copies of the DNA found in the smallest sample that is intentionally taken from a patient or even from evidence left behind at a crime scene such as a fleck of saliva found on an envelope or blood found inside the bomb where the perpetrator may have nicked themselves in the construction process. ...
