University has 125 campuses and learning centers located in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico (University of Phoenix, nd). One program is called FlexNet, which combines Online learning with on-campus learning; one-third of the students time is spent in classrooms and two-thirds are spent learning via the Internet (University of Phoenix, nd). This University offers an associate of arts program, undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate programs in a vast array of disciplines (University of Phoenix, nd). This was one of the first institutions of higher education that received accreditation for Online degree programs (Online-College-Degree-Distance-Education-Programs.org, 2003). The university also provides training for businesses. In the summer of 2000, the University of Phoenix had 68,000 working professionals enrolled in their programs (Newton, nd). They are extremely successful an enjoy an enviable position in the private education industry marketplace (Newton, nd). There are any number of differences between the University of Phoenix and on-campus higher education institutions. For one thing, this university caters to the adult who is over 27 years old and who is working full-time while traditional colleges cater to the younger group between about 18 and 24 years old who are not working full-time (Newton, nd). The faculty at a traditional college is comprised of experts in their discipline who design the curriculum, prepare it, instruct it and evaluate student learning (Newton, nd).
