Behavioral modification techniques can take a number of manifestations. Behavioral modification techniques vary, of course, according to the conditions they are employed to treat. The purpose of this paper is to explore a community based behavioral modification approach typically utilized to treat a condition referred to as conduct disorder. Conduct disorder is one of the most concerning of adolescent behaviors in that it often manifests with a tendency of individuals to exhibit destructive tendencies which target either property, people or animals. These individuals deceive and steal as it suits their purpose and have not regard for the rights and rules of others. They also show a lack of remorse and empathy. Behavioral modification attempts can take a number of diverse directions. Indeed, determining the most appropriate treatment for conduct disorder is far from cut and dried. One researcher notes that determining the most appropriate treatment intervention for the behavior is complicated by the fact that: "it has not been worked out exactly how to measure conduct disorder (Kazdin, 1995, 45) " Kazdins "Conduct Disorders in Childhood and Adolescence" provides a concise overview of the issues related to gender, age of onset, developmental trajectories, and socialized versus undersocialized conduct disorder (Newcorn, 1997). Kazdin recognizes the need for specifically targeted prevention programs for at-risk children rather than a broad scale application of approaches which may or may not be effective in significantly decreasing the odds of an individual developing conduct disorder. ...
