three types of movies all have a number of similar qualities. All three utilize visual imagery to produce their desired affect. All of these types of movies have a theme, a plot or a primary message that audiences attempt to understand. And all three use characters, whether real or created, to convey their individual stories. Although these similarities are notable, each category has an individual focus, a reason, determined by the films creator, for presenting the message, and a unique style for this presentation. Dramatic films focus on the development of characters and the relationship between the characters and their surroundings. Dramas often contain a fine degree of detail. Sometimes this detail is solely related to plot development, but directors can also focus their attention on the creation of characters or the desired mood of the film. While other types of movies can fall back on their humor or their informational content, dramas must create all the information available to the viewer through the characters choices. Plot development is most significant for dramatic films. Although writers and directors can provide some entertainment simply by developing interesting characters, viewers who chose to watch dramas often have high expectations of the movies plot. The believability of characters is directly proportionate to the credibility of the plot. If a storyline represents a concept that could never take place, dramas do not have the lea weigh available to comedies. Dramas often fail because of the inability of writers and film makers to keep a cohesive and constantly moving plot in focus.
