As the world grows increasingly "smaller," businesses have an increasingly greater use for individuals who can communicate effectively in other languages. Most corporations are expanding internationally and job opportunities for the bilingual and trilingual are plentiful (Smith, 1992). People generally do not realize the impact that this has on both education and business. Consequently, the foreign language educators role becomes one in which they must also gather the attention of students and gain interest in the subject. By promoting career awareness and the relevance of foreign languages in virtually every discipline, educators can more effectively get their students interested in depth study of Spanish, French, Italian, German, and so many others. In a global business climate that increasingly demands an understanding of other cultures and languages, bilingual education experts must clearly remain conscientious of the fact that businesses have to become more involved in promoting successful transitions from languages other than English. Indeed, there are many things that businesses can do like providing tutors from among their existing bilingual employees, as well as mentors, training programs, internships and more. Clearly, the bilingual person is almost never without job opportunity. Better yet, the educated bilingual person is almost never without marketable influence in the job market. Of course, we must not examine this unique career opportunity from such a one-sided perspective either.
