This is a 3 page paper discussing Canadian business and the natural environment. The core of Canada’s natural and environmental resource industries are considered to be forestry, mining, agriculture, energy and fishing and in addition to promoting international trade and business, many industries which are natural-resource based are also involved in sustainable development which maintains and develops the growth of these industries while sustaining a healthy environment. There are several dimensions to Canadian business and the natural environment most of which involve the exploration, development and study of the natural and environmental resources while contributing to the understanding of the environment in the process. Canadian businesses involved in the natural environment include those which are government affiliated, those which are non-government organizations in additional to private, national and international corporations. In addition, there are many Canadian businesses which are not directly related to the environmental resource industries but have formed alliances and commitment to factors related to environmental concerns. There are several dimensions to Canadian business and the natural environment most of which involve the exploration, development and study of the natural and environmental resources while contributing to the understanding of the environment in the process. Canadian businesses involved in the natural environment include those which are government affiliated, those which are non-government organizations in additional to private, national and international corporations. In addition, there are many Canadian businesses which are not directly related to the environmental resource industries but have formed alliances and commitment to factors related to environmental concerns. A good example of businesses in relation to the natural environment within Canada are those which are currently being developed and maintained within the province of Manitoba. Natural resources in Manitoba include exploration and development in the areas of mining and smelting of zinc, gold, base metal, diamonds, platinum and specialty metals among others. Hudsons Bay Mining & Smelting invested over $400 million in The 777 Project in Flin Flon which includes the expansion of the zinc pressure leach plant; environmental upgrades to copper smelter; the opening of the Chisel North mine in Snow Lake and the sinking of a new shaft in Flin Flon among other components. Inco has further committed to the Thompson Birchtree mine by deepening the mine which will double the daily production of the mine (Manitoba, 2002). The exploration of gold within Canada includes businesses such as International Curator Resources and Rare Earth Metals northwest of Thompson and Bema Gold near Monument Bay. Other gold exploration companies within Manitoba alone include TVX Newmount Americas, First Majestic Resource Corporation, ...
