audiences realized, Little Shop of Horrors illustrated some of the most difficult of moral and ethical dilemmas. Depending on which side of the aisle one hailed from, one either loved Little Shop of Horrors (the new version) or they hated it. What follows is a comparison and analysis of two reviews of this production. The original movie, released in 1960, had a very different ending than the Menken movie-musical, however the dilemmas remained the same. Seymour Krelbourn is a down and out young man living on skid row. He is employed by Mr. Mushnick in a flower shop where he is a janitor. Seymour shortly shows that he is inept and clumsy. A bumbler, the audience learns that Seymour has a history of breaking things, or forgetting things, which have added to the lack of business in the store. This Broadway musical chronicles the rags to riches rise of Seymour. Little Shop Of Horrors Theatre Review by Matthew Murray - October 2, 2003 Theatre: Virginia Theatre, 245 West 52nd Street Matthew Murray begins his review of Little Shop of horrors pleasantly enough, stating that the script was not tampered with as much as it could have been. However, Murray is quick to state that for all of Jerry Zaks experience that the challenge of using outdated and outmoded expressions in a musical were too much for Zaks. He says, "The shows inherent heart and plaintive charms have been eviscerated, and the remnants let loose at the Virginia Theatre to plant themselves down for what is likely to be, regardless, a long stay"(Murray).
