carefully scientific study and advances in technology, it was discovered that the story of Creation was simply that, nothing more than a story. This was based on the notion
that the cosmos was static and unmoving after it had been created. However, scientists have since learned that the universe has continued to expand in what has become known
as the big bang theory. Basically, what this means is that everything as we know it - space, time, matter, energy - was created by a singular, spontaneous explosion
which occurred between 10 and 20 billion years ago, due to such a high concentration of density. This theory has led to countless others, including the belief that there
exists matter known as black holes, the importance of which has led to one of the most heated debates in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. While the name black
holes may sound like it was something that was dreamed up by the late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry many astronomers are convinced that black holes are a scientific fact
and not the figment of a creative imagination. But until recently, much have this has been little more than reliance upon faith than on facts that can be observed
and verified (Cowen 17). What exactly is a black hole? It isnt anything that can be seen by the naked eye; therefore, there is no evidence that it actually
exists (Cowen 17). In simplest terms, it has been defined as "an object that has collapsed to such density nothing escapes its strong gravity" (Cowen 17). These objects
are created by the bursts of gamma rays or radiation (Gehrels et al. 92). After a star collapses, the resulting radiation can be seen billions of light-years away.
